Disclosure: In a partnership with the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, this post is part of a series about the Girl Scouts Pathways Program and the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas’ summer camps. In exchange for learning about, touring, attending, and sharing about my family’s experience with these camps, I am being provided with complimentary camps for my child to attend. No other compensation will be received and all opinions are mine and my daughter’s.

Singing around a campfire with friends. Swimming in a cool river, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. Writing letters home to the people you love while also embracing the independence of your big summer adventure. Cooking out and enjoying the meal you and your friends created together as the sun sets behind you. Memories from summer camp are carried by kids throughout their lifetime and help them grow into independent, caring, and capable adults.

Recently, I wrote about the Girl Scout Pathways program which makes it easy for any girl, regardless if she is in a Girl Scout troop or not, to attend Girl Scout summer camps. One of those is Camp La Jita, a 236-acre resident camp near Utopia, Texas, where girls stay overnight, for either one or two weeks, and participate in activities including horseback riding, swimming, hiking, archery, canoeing, arts and crafts, cookouts, nature activities, singing, hikes, games and more.

After writing that post, I heard from friends and followers on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook who were passionate about their Girl Scout camp experiences. They want to share their memories of the special times they spent at Camp La Jita.

I attended a week-long camp at Camp La Jita when I was a little girl and it made such an incredible, lasting impression on me. It was the perfect camp experience with swimming, arts & crafts, archery, horseback riding, and sleeping in actual cabins. The experience was so much fun, but what I remember most is the sense of independence it gave me as a little girl. Being away from Mom and Dad for a whole week was a BIG deal but I was having so much fun, I never realized it! I highly recommend Camp La Jita for your child.”

Camp La Jita was my favorite! My Girl Scout troop went every year and we always had so much fun. There was so much to see and do.”

What I remember most from Camp La Jita: story time tree, dinosaur rock with footprints, camp songs near the fire, the beauty of nature, and wonderful memories…priceless. Another great memory is a song, Jamie Boy, that I learned as a kid at camp and my daughter loves it when I sing it to her.”
