Windcrest Christmas Light Up

The Windcrest Light Up is a decade-old tradition where houses are decorated with lights and other decadent decorations. So many houses are decorated because a contest is held to pick the most beautifully decorated home. This year the theme of the contest is A Kaleidoscope of Colors, ensuring a beautiful, colorful, and bright drive down the neighborhood streets.

Windcrest Christmas Lights Dates for 2022

While many houses throw up Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving, the City of Windcrest holds an annual Windcrest Light Up Ceremony that kicks off the light-up season. This year the light-up started on December 4. But that doesn’t mean you’ve missed out on the lights. Christmas lights in San Antonio and decorations are still around throughout the end of December for visitors to get a spectacular seasonal fill.

There are many streets in Windcrest that are decorated with lights, but the zip code of 78239 is the neighborhood that is a part of the Windcrest Light Up!

While there is no right way to view the lights, there are several entrances- I-35 Access Road at Tradewind, Crestway & Midcrown, and Eaglecrest at Balfour -the city offers a map so you can be sure to see every house!

Stop by the Windcrest Volunteer Fire Association located at 8601 Midcrown Dr, Windcrest, TX 78239 to pick up a map that leads you through the neighborhood. Please remain in your cars and follow the signs that are posted!

Many people choose to drive-thru the Windcrest Light Up. So, parking isn’t a worry. However, you are more than welcome to pull your car over to the side of a house and get out to take photos. Remember to be courteous of the people who live in the home and the line of cars behind you! 

When is the best time to see Christmas lights in Windcrest?

Windcrest Light Up in San Antonio

To avoid the crowd it’s best to head over to Windcrest once the sun goes down. This typically has been starting to happen early, but 5:30 p.m. is a great time! The maps are available during normal hours of operation so, you can grab that ahead of time. Windcrest Christmas lights get turned off at 11:00 p.m. each night so, be sure to go before then!

The City of Windcrest Facebook may post updates if you want to keep an eye out for updated information.

On the map of the Windcrest Light Up there will be locations of Light Up winners and other homes decorated throughout the city. However, this year on the Light Up Map there will be a QR code for you and others in the car to vote for your favorite home! What a fun twist to seeing some lights.
