Parking, Tips & Best Times to Visit

A little planning can make your San Antonio Zoo Lights visit feel relaxed and effortless, even on busy holiday nights. Here are some timing and parking tips to take note of:

Parking Options

The new multilevel Zoo Parking Garage at 3903 N. St. Mary’s Street, located between the zoo and the Will Smith Zoo School, provides the easiest access. Elevators, ADA parking spaces, EV charging stations, and bike racks are all available. The best part is that the entrance is just a two-minute walk away.

Zoo members receive free parking during regular hours, while general visitors typically pay around $12 on busier evenings.

Additional parking is available at the Train Depot lot and in Brackenridge Park surface areas. These spots tend to fill quickly on weekends and during peak holiday nights, so you have to arrive early to snag a spot.

On especially busy evenings, ridesharing services offer a stress-free alternative, letting you skip parking lines.

Best Times to Visit

Weekdays, particularly earlier in the week, bring lighter crowds and shorter waits. Arriving right at sunset also lets you watch the zoo shift from daytime exploration to evening sparkle as the lights turn on.

Another smart approach is arriving mid-afternoon, enjoying animal exhibits and daily activities first, then staying as the grounds glow up for the night.

Peak crowds usually gather on Friday and Saturday evenings, especially during extended hours until 9:00 PM. Visiting outside those windows creates a smoother, more enjoyable experience filled with festive moments instead of long lines.
