Monte Vista fills the holiday season with charm as neighbors bring their homes to life with colorful lights and creative displays. The tradition grows from the community itself, and residents decorate with pride every year.
Take note, however, the Monte Vista San Antonio Christmas Lights is not an official event, so visitors can explore at their own pace, completely free.
The lights usually appear in late November and shine through the end of December. And the lights turn on during the early evening through late night. You can also choose to drive through the area or walk around the neighborhood.
In addition to the displays, the Monte Vista community also holds seasonal activities, including holiday bazaars, porch gatherings, and community events throughout the season.

About the Monte Vista Neighborhood
Monte Vista began as a goat pasture about 1.5 miles north of downtown San Antonio. The community then transformed during San Antonio’s Gilded Age between 1890 and 1930, when prominent citizens from the oil and cattle industries started building elegant homes there.
Many of these homes, which include Queen Anne, Hollywood Bungalow, Georgian, Tudor, Moorish, and Victorian-era designs, still stand and show the architectural creativity of that era.
Monte Vista now covers around 100 city blocks and includes fourteen unique subdivisions. And it ranks as one of the largest and oldest historic districts in Texas and the United States.
