Tips for Visiting Windcrest Christmas Lights

Here are some practical, actionable tips to help you make the most of your Windcrest Light-Up experience:

  1. Pick up a Map Early
The map highlights contest winners and other standout homes, helping you plan a route that maximizes your viewing.

  2. Time Your Visit Wisely
Arriving around 6:00 PM tends to strike the best balance: the lights are fully visible, and traffic is lighter than later in the evening. Some locals even suggest waiting until 6:30–7:00 PM, when it’s truly dark, and the displays pop more.

  3. Use the Recommended Entry Points
Entering through Midcrown/Walzem gives you a smoother start, especially since volunteers from the Fire Department often hand out maps there.

  4. Drive Slowly & Be Alert
The speed limit in Windcrest is 20 mph, and many visitors stop their cars to take photos. Watch for people exiting their vehicles, and if you need to pause, turn on your hazard lights so others know.

  5. Consider Walking or Biking for a More Relaxed View
There’s a bike-only section for a quieter, more intimate experience, and riders often light up their bikes to join in the fun. If you prefer foot traffic, parking near the fire station and walking the route lets you skip some of the worst of the traffic.

  6. Be Patient — and Bring Hot Chocolate
With so many people coming to see the lights, traffic can back up. Slow down, enjoy the ride, and bring something warm to sip while you cruise. It helps make the wait feel part of the holiday magic.

  7. Don’t Block the Flow
If you stop to take pictures, try to use designated pull-off areas or side streets. Blocking main routes creates gridlock, and locals emphasize being courteous to keep the experience smooth for everyone

  8. Nominate Your Favorites
Use the map to find homes you love, then head to the Light-Up website to nominate them for the People’s Choice Award. It’s a fun way to get involved and support community displays.
