A smooth visit to UIW Light the Way starts with knowing where to park and how the campus flows once you arrive. Here’s what you need to know:
Parking Options
The most convenient parking is available at Founders Hall, located at 4119 Broadway with entry via Broadway at Allensworth Street. This lot and garage serve as a popular starting point and also function as the primary ride-share drop-off location, making it ideal if you want quick access to the lights.
Another reliable option is the Alonso Ancira Tower Parking Garage at 847 E. Hildebrand Avenue, entered from the US-281 North access road gate. From here, you can enjoy a slightly longer walk through illuminated campus landmarks on the way to the main display.
Handicap parking is also available in front of the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center, accessed via the US-281 North access road. Expect to find clear signage to guide you there.
If you prefer street parking, you can park in nearby Alamo Heights and Terrell Hills. However, these spots often carry strict restrictions. Obey posted signage and avoid nearby business lots, as violations can lead to fines or towing during the holiday season.
Venue Layout
From Founders Hall, cross Broadway Street and Hildebrand Avenue, then continue south along Broadway to enter the heart of the light display. This route places you directly into the illuminated pathways and riverfront scenery.
From the Ancira Garage, the walk flows downhill past the Athletics complex, under the Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium stands, and across the distinctive red brick bridge that leads into the festival area. This approach builds anticipation as the lights gradually come into view.
You’ll also get to see key illuminated landmarks along the route, including the Cervera Wellness Center, Kelso Art Center, Luella Bennack Music Center, AT&T Science Building, Mabee Library, and the Agnese-Sosa Joyce Building. Grab an official event map to see these stops clearly.
