Today San Antonio Mom Blogs welcomes guest contributor Emily Reynolds with Defining Delicious.
**** Be sure to enter the Defining Delicious Restaurant Week giveaway to two San Antonio restaurants below! ****
When I first moved to San Antonio four years ago, I founded my blog, Defining Delicious. It started as a food-meets-family blog, right around the beginning of San Antonio’s Restaurant Week. I visited several establishments with my then two-and-a-half-year-old daughter and found myself loving the excuse to dine around my new city, sampling menus galore and finding new ways to eat out with my sweet little one. I loved the idea that San Antonio’s Restaurant Week, unlike those in a lot of other cities, actually benefits a nonprofit, Culinaria.
Fast forward to now. My passion for food helped me turn Defining Delicious from a blog into a full-time business. We are a full-on food and beverage PR firm that works with some of the leading chefs, restaurants, bars, and even Culinaria, here in San Antonio. Talk about full circle.
Needless to say, I consider myself a wonderful resource in navigating Restaurant Week as this will be my fourth go at it. It holds a dear place in my heart as it was also the subject of one of my first ever blog posts on Defining Delicious’s site. I also love the opportunity to expose my kids to as much and as many restaurants and flavors as possible, as you don’t know until you try, right?
I think the best way to navigate Restaurant Week, for moms of all varieties, is to categorize the participating restaurants: start with your date nights then move into your “my kids are still home for the summer” days. There are plenty of options of all kinds from which to choose. Yet, people sometimes think that Restaurant Week is all-date-night-or-nothing. I hope the following list helps you see that there are many options to get the most out of this week – kids or no kids. Here are my recommendations for a Foodie Mama Restaurant Week Tour.
My Top Three Must Stops or, places I highly recommend checking out no matter what you wear or how you get there:
The Esquire Tavern
Chef Brooke Smith is the hottest female chef in town these days and this week she will feature her farm-fresh-fare and off-menu items including a tomato and fennel soup. It will be delicious and made with farm-raised ingredients. Be sure to get a cocktail of the week, while you are there.
Restaurant Gwendolyn
This is their first year participating in Restaurant Week and they won Culinaria’s Grand Tasting, Best Dish, so I can only imagine what is to come from them this week.
Starfish
It’s new, it’s gorgeous, and Chef Diego will knock your socks off with his red snapper crudo.
My Top Three Out-Of-The-Box, Family-Friendly Lunches:
Zedric’s
So this one may have a box included, but you will thank me later. Its simple: you grab a gourmet meal-to-go (hence the box) and you go where you need to go. Run your errands or sit at the playground; what ever your day looks like, you can enjoy this unique concept that is fun, healthy, and delicious for the whole family. I am sure there will be some special Restaurant Week fit flavors that Chef Zach will whip up.
Tribeca
If you haven’t been, I cannot think of a cooler place for kids with a splash of class. I love this place! There is a whole room just for the kiddos and I am sure the menu will compliment your sense of relief. (San Antonio Mom Blogs wrote about Tribeca’s kids’ room just last year)
Restaurant Week on The Move
Tuesday, August 19th, from 11am-2pm, Culinaria hosts a meals-on-food-truck-wheels Restaurant Week on the Move gathering at Travis Park. Bring the kids, bring the grandkids, bring your neighbor’s kids and try all your favorite mobile kitchens in one stop. Also, if you haven’t yet experienced the newly renovated Travis Park, it’s a great way to see our city’s bright and vibrant future come to life (and, it’s gorgeous to boot). Check it out.
For more on Restaurant Week and a full list of participating restaurants please visit Culinaria and if you see me out and about sampling these divine-one-of-a-kind menus, please say hello. I promise, I only bite food. If you’re in the mood for some fashion-meets-food tidbits, please visit DefiningDelicious.com as one of my favorite blogger-pr-fashion-mamas, Aquila from Haute in Texas, is giving us some tips on what to wear for Restaurant Week. We’ve teamed up to give you a map from stomach to stilettos. Thank you for reading and, if you are what you eat, please make it Delicious.
