The holidays are quickly approaching. For San Antonians, that can only mean one thing: the holiday lights on our world-famous River Walk are returning. In fact, it has started early this year! San Antonio’s River Walk is transformed into a colorful winter wonderland illuminated by hundreds of thousands of dazzling lights. If you want to welcome in the holiday season with a truly magical experience, this is one light show you don’t want to miss.
The Holiday Lights on the River Walk turn on each day at sundown and remain on throughout the night until dawn. Over 2,000 strings of lights are hung in the majestic bald cypress trees lining the River Walk creating a dazzling display of holiday magic. The lights reflect on the river itself, creating a one-of-a-kind spectacle found in few other places in the world.
Visiting the Holiday Lights on the River Walk is completely free, as the River Walk is a public park and open to the public 24/7 each day of the year. The Holiday Lights are presented each year as a gift to the public from the San Antonio River Walk Association and the City of San Antonio. Private boat tours are also available for a truly wondrous way to enjoy the holiday lights.
The San Antonio Holiday Lights on the River Walk will light up the city now through to January 13, 2020. As for cost, the Holiday Lights on the River Walk are completely free to the public.
“2020 has been a tough year — one of the most trying in our recent history,” Mayor Ron Nirenberg said. “Holidays we look forward to every year have changed dramatically so we can keep each other safe and healthy. If you’re like me, one of the things you look forward to most every year is watching the River Walk light up for the holidays.”
Don’t miss one of San Antonio’s most magical holiday experiences and come see why our River Walk has become one of the most popular attractions in Texas. Don’t miss a chance to see the River Walk like you’ve never seen it before!
