Now in its 45th year, Altares y Ofrendas displays the cultural, religious, and artistic facets of this pre-Columbian Mexican tradition where death is viewed as a natural part of life and is approached with comedy and celebration.  Ofrendas are put up for the departed to grace and receive offerings from their loved ones.

This free event, now in its tenth year and produced by Anuja SA, was created to recognize the sister city relationship between San Antonio and Chennai, India. Along with authentic Indian cuisine, expect dancing, art, and other celebrations, together with the release of 2,000 floating diyas, or lights, representing the triumph of good over evil. The evening comes to a close with spectacular fireworks.
