Know Before You Go: Planning Your San Antonio Halloween Night
If you’re heading out for Halloween in San Antonio, plan your transportation and parking before the evening gets busy. Downtown, the River Walk, the Pearl, and Southtown offer different ways to celebrate, from costume parties and bars to live music and haunted attractions.
If you’re coming from Alamo Heights, Stone Oak, or Boerne, allow extra travel time and check your route before leaving, especially if your plans include multiple stops.
- Getting home: Ride-share services can get expensive when Halloween parties let out, particularly around the River Walk and St. Mary’s Strip. Expect possible traffic delays and pickup restrictions near busy venues. Agree on a meeting point with your driver away from the busiest entrances, and check local road closures before heading out. If you’re planning to stay until the early hours, arrange your return trip in advance.
- Costume guidelines: A full costume can make the night more fun, but check the rules for your chosen venue before getting dressed. Bars and clubs may require you to remove masks or face coverings temporarily to verify your identity. Leave realistic replica weapons and other prohibited costume accessories at home, and bring a valid government-issued photo ID if you plan to visit nightlife venues.
- Where to park: Downtown parking garages can be a practical alternative to private surface lots, particularly if you’re staying for several hours. Consider garages such as St. Mary’s Garage at 205 E. Travis St. and Houston Street Garage at 240 E. Houston St., but check current rates, hours, and availability before you go. If you’re visiting multiple neighborhoods, compare parking options near each stop rather than assuming you’ll find an affordable space right outside every venue.
