Know Before You Go: Local Tips for Halloween Day in San Antonio
San Antonio’s Halloween plans stretch well beyond downtown. You can take the kids to a mall candy trail in the afternoon, head to SeaWorld or Six Flags Fiesta Texas for a full day of rides and Halloween activities, or stick closer to home for neighborhood trick-or-treating in places like Stone Oak, Helotes, Schertz, and Alamo Ranch.
If you’re driving to SeaWorld or Fiesta Texas on October 31, give yourself extra time around Loop 1604 and I-10, especially if you’re staying into the evening.
Mall events are worth checking early, too: some start around 4 or 5 PM, giving younger kids a chance to collect candy before heading out around the neighborhood.
Common Questions about Halloween Day in San Antonio
What time does trick-or-treating usually start in San Antonio?
Most families head out around dusk, often between 6 and 6:30 PM on October 31. Mall events and organized Halloween activities can start much earlier, though. Some open in the morning, while others begin around 4 PM, so you can take younger kids trick-or-treating before the neighborhood rounds begin.
Are there indoor trick-or-treating options in San Antonio on Halloween Day?
Yes. Indoor mall events give kids a place to collect candy without walking from house to house in the evening. Ingram Park Mall is hosting Mall-O-Ween, and you can also check with North Star Mall and South Park Mall for their Halloween schedules before heading out. Event details and participation can vary by location.
Do kids get free food on Halloween in San Antonio?
There are Halloween food deals worth checking, although not all of them are specifically for kids. Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut to guests in costume, Chipotle’s Boorito deal brings eligible entrées down to $6 for Rewards members in costume, and Sonic’s Halloween promotion offers 50-cent corn dogs at participating locations. Check the terms before you go, since some offers require an in-person visit or have other restrictions.
