Witte Museum in San Antonio – Exhibits & Events
The Witte Museum is named after San Antonio businessman Alfred G. Witte who in 1925 left the city $65,000 to build a museum of art, science, and natural history. The museum opened in 1926 and soon after began supporting archaeological research in the southwest Texas area. Many of the artifacts in the museum’s collections were found on these expeditions!

Naylor Family Dinosaur Gallery
As soon as you walk into the Witte, you’re greeted by a giant dinosaur and other fossils. These put-together bones are part of the Dinosaur Gallery! There is also a Dinosaur Lab where you can excavate dinosaur bones like a paleontologist!
McLean Family Texas Wild Gallery
Located on the first floor, you can become mesmerized by life-like creatures of South Texas, the Central Plains, and other lands of the South.
Kittie West Nelson Ferguson People of the Pecos Gallery
The Pecos Gallery focuses on the hunter-gatherers of Texas and is located on the second floor. There is an elevator for those who bring a stroller, use a wheelchair, or need help getting up the stairs.
Robert J. and Helen C. Kleberg South Texas Heritage Center
To the right of the main entry, you’ll walk into a two-story building that holds an amphitheater, classroom, and two galleries. Oh, and the entire back portion of the building provides a beautiful view of the back of the museum grounds, including the San Antonio River.
H-E-B Body Adventure
The H-E-B Body Adventure not only teaches your child about their body and health, but it’s a chance for them to get active. From CPR virtual tutorial to climbing Mount Witte, children are sure to enjoy this portion – even adults.
Naylor Morton Research and Collections Center
In an effort to preserve historic artifacts, the Research and Collections Center has two Galleries and a Reading Room. Both are open by appointment only.

The museum is open with a variety of hours and ticket options for visitors. While open, the San Antonio Witte Museum is encouraging social distancing – stay one Bison apart – and has sanitation stations around exhibit rooms to ensure cleanliness.
