Plan Your Veterans Day in San Antonio

Before heading out to enjoy the Veterans Day San Antonio events, take a few minutes to plan. These local tips will help you make the most of your day and ensure a smooth, enjoyable experience:

  • Arrive early for the Veterans Day Parade: The parade along Houston Street draws thousands each year. Plan to arrive at least 45 minutes early to find parking or a good viewing spot near Alamo Plaza or Travis Park.

  • Use public transport or downtown shuttles: Many streets close for the parade and ceremonies. VIA Metropolitan Transit usually offers extended service routes, a convenient option to avoid traffic and parking hassles.

  • Park strategically: If you’re driving, consider paid lots near the River Walk or Market Square for easier post-event exits. Check for special Veterans Day parking restrictions downtown or in any other neighborhoods before you go.

  • Dress for comfort and weather: San Antonio’s November days can be warm but breezy. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a light jacket for evening ceremonies or concerts.

  • Bring folding chairs or blankets: For long events, having your own setup makes the experience much more comfortable.

  • Stay hydrated and snack smart: Food trucks and local vendors line many Veterans Day venues, but it’s still wise to carry a refillable water bottle and a few snacks, especially for kids or seniors.

  • Honor the moment: During solemn ceremonies, stand quietly and observe the moment of silence to show respect for those who served.

  • Check event updates: Follow official event pages or official social media channels for schedule changes, weather alerts, or updated security measures.

  • Support local veterans: Many booths at these events feature local veteran-owned businesses and organizations. Stop by, make a purchase, or sign up to volunteer. It’s a great way to give back.
