Just a mile from downtown Boerne, the Cibolo Center for Conservation protects over 160 acres of Texas Hill Country.
Six miles of trails move through five distinct ecosystems: native prairie, spring-fed marsh, oak and juniper woodland, Cibolo Creek banks, and ancient cypress groves that have been standing here for over a thousand years.
Wade in the creek, spot Painted Buntings and endangered Golden-Cheeked Warblers at dedicated birding stations, and find replica Acrocanthosaurus dinosaur tracks at the trailhead.
On Saturday mornings at the historic Herff Farm campus, you’ll find over 25 local vendors bringing fresh produce, farm eggs, baked goods, local wine, and artisan goods to the grounds of an 1850s homestead listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

River Road Park is a short, flat, paved trail that runs along Cibolo Creek under a canopy of ancient cypress trees. Here, you can find ducks, geese, and turtles lounging on sunny rocks, drifting through calm water, and completely ignoring the humans watching them.

Cascade Caverns

Boerne’s oldest tourist attraction has been open since 1932, and Cascade Caverns hasn’t changed much since then.
Instead of heavy lighting rigs and polished pathways, guides lead small groups through five major rooms with flashlights in hand, 132 feet underground through stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, draperies, and formations that are still actively growing.

Boerne City Lake Park
Boerne City Lake is an 189-acre reservoir where gas-powered boats are completely banned, and it’s worth it. So, when you roll out on a kayak or paddle board, you’ll experience calm, clear, and quiet waters unlike others.
If you don’t have your own kayak or paddle board, you can rent them from Hill Country Paddle Sports. You can even try your luck at fishing for bass, catfish, and crappie.
An 18-hole disc golf course, sand volleyball courts, a butterfly garden, and a bird observation blind fill out the rest of the park’s considerable acreage.

Joshua Springs Park & Preserve
At 365 acres with 8 miles of trails, the terrain at Joshua Springs moves through oak and juniper woodland, creek crossings, open meadows, and rocky hillside paths, with a 9-acre spring-fed lake at the center of it all.
For birding enthusiasts, those trails provide plenty to see. Dedicated bird hides, an organized census every second Tuesday of the month, and diverse riparian and upland habitat attract species that are genuinely hard to find elsewhere in the region.
Bring binoculars, and you’ll understand why the regulars keep coming back.

Texas Hill Country farming history sounds like it could put you to sleep, and then you walk into the AgriCultural Museum and realize this place has been running on pure community love since 1986, and it shows.
Set on 5 acres inside Boerne City Park, the grounds hold a barn full of antique tractors and farm equipment, a working blacksmith shop, a woodshop, and a restored pioneer house.
You can get close, ask questions, and absorb what Hill Country agricultural life looked like before everything was modernized.

The Hill Country Mile is downtown Boerne’s main stretch, a walkable run of 19th-century limestone storefronts that have been continuously in use since the town’s German settler days. Nowm they house an eclectic mix of antique shops, art galleries, boutique clothing stores, breweries, bakeries, and restaurants.
You can cover the whole stretch in under 20 minutes, but between stopping into shops, grabbing a coffee, sitting on a patio, and ducking into a brewery, most people take considerably longer, and many don’t mind at all.
Seasonal events like Dickens on Main in December and Diva Night dress the whole Mile up in a way that’s worth planning a trip around specifically, not just passing through for.

The result is a lineup of genuinely distinctive wines, including Tempranillo, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Albariño, and Tannat that taste like Texas Hill Country rather than an imitation of other famous wines.
Tastings happen in a rustic tin barn tasting room right next to the estate vineyard, with a patio and a setting that makes it very easy to forget you had somewhere else to be.
