Join the adventure on a 5-mile guided hike to discover the dinosaur tracks at Government Canyon!

Step back 100 million years to an ocean-side landscape, now home to fossilized tracks left by a sauropod and a theropod. These footprints, once embedded in a muddy beach, are now preserved in rock, offering a glimpse into the past. 

This hike is open to all ages 8 and up, though minors need to bring a parent or legal guardian along for the journey. Keep in mind, the terrain is rough and rocky with some elevation changes, making it a thrilling yet manageable 5-mile round trip.

Only the first 15 participants to check in with the hike leader will get to join.

Start the New Year by stepping back in time and discovering the young men who helped build Blanco State Park nearly 100 years ago. Join a 1-mile hike to explore the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), Company 854, and learn about their lasting contributions to the park. 

The walk is easy-going, covering about 1 mile of mostly level, paved ground, making it the perfect chance to soak in both history and the natural beauty of Blanco State Park.

First Day Hike – Falls Loop

Kick off your year with the perfect first hike along the Pedernales River! Join this guided 2.5-mile loop that takes you through stunning river views, up hills, and along scenic ridges. You’ll even have the chance to spot wildlife while taking in the peaceful beauty of the river.

The hike begins at the Falls Parking lot, then winds down to an overlook before heading upriver. After reaching the park’s boundary, the trail leads you uphill to the Northern Equestrian Trail and back to the parking lot.

The terrain includes rocky, sandy, and grass-covered paths, with a few steep and gravelly sections, so make sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes. This hike is perfect for families and dogs, as long as they’re ready for the 2.5-mile adventure.
