National Margarita Day San Antonio Verified Deals For 2023

Can you already taste the ice-cold mixture of sweet and sour from a frosty, salt-rimmed glass?  It’s almost that time of year again.  That’s right!  February 22 is National Margarita Day, and San Antonio is one of the eternal meccas for seekers of this celebratory drink. There are plenty of refreshing deals throughout the city, if you know where to look.

This handy guide will empower you and your friends and family to get your drink on at a spectacular price while you have some fun this weekend in San Antonio.  Cheers!

Where did the Margarita Originate? Feels like San Antonio, right?

Before we get to the nitty-gritty, what exactly is a margarita, and what are the origins of this festive beverage?  The margarita is a cocktail dating back to 1930s Mexico.  Traditionally, it consists of tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, though different variations have emerged throughout the years.  One thing you may rest assured of is the sacred presence of tequila.

The drink is served either shaken with ice (“on the rocks”), blended (a “frozen margarita”), or without ice (“straight up”), and often comes in the iconic margarita glass, which sort of looks like the offspring of a champagne coupe and an exceptionally wide-brimmed wine glass.  Salt on the rim and a wedge of lime make for an exceptional experience.

Multiple creation myths surround the history of the margarita (which translates to “daisy” in Spanish).  One of the most widely circulated histories is that in 1938 Mexico, a restaurant owner named Carlos “Danny” Herrera concocted the drink for a patron who was allergic to every spirit except tequila.  Whatever the origin of the margarita, one thing is certain: its originators could not have anticipated the enduring legacy of the drink within Mexican and American popular culture.
