13th Floor Haunted House
13th Floor Haunted House has been scaring San Antonio for 16 years. USA Today has even named it one of the five scariest haunted houses in the country. So yes, you can expect more than a guy in a mask jumping out from behind a plywood wall.
The attraction occupies a 1905 building that once housed the city’s first cold storage facility, and after staff reported doppelgängers, shadow people, and unexplained physical contact, a paranormal team investigated the place and concluded that it was genuinely haunted.
This year, you get two additional reasons to lose your composure.
Jason Universe: Survive the Night is an officially licensed Friday the 13th walkthrough that puts you directly in Jason Voorhees’ territory.
Dose of Decay drops you into a post-apocalyptic city ravaged by a chemical plague and controlled by the mad scientist responsible for it.
Still standing after both? The Respawn Pass lets you run through them again, while the hidden 21+ Copper Tavern offers a specialty shot before you head back into the madness.

Terrorland Haunted Adventure
If the idea of being trapped on a hayride with a bunch of things that really, really don’t want you to leave sounds like a good Halloween Friday night, Terrorland Haunted Adventure should be on your list.
This outdoor haunt has been running for 15 years, sending visitors rumbling through a wooded stretch of southeast San Antonio where the trail, the darkness, and the actors all become part of the scare.
The hayride is the star here. You climb aboard and head down a hillside trail through the trees while creatures emerge from the darkness.
The best part is that there’s no age limit, so you can share the scares with younger members of your group.

Sinister Harvest Haunted Attraction
Sinister Harvest Haunted Attraction takes the idea of getting scared a little more literally. Set inside a former schoolhouse in Devine that was built in 1905 and abandoned after closing in the 1970s, this full-contact haunt combines an old building with an experience that doesn’t exactly respect your personal space.
The nightmare starts outside in a barnyard, where deranged serial killers are hunting for their next victims. Unfortunately, that’s you.
From there, you make your way into the old schoolhouse, where you’ll encounter everything from rats and snakes to live animatronics in the Butcher Room.
Then there are the sections where the lights go completely out. No flashlight. No helpful glowing arrows telling you which way to run. You have to find your way through the darkness yourself.
It’s about 30 minutes from San Antonio, so it’s an easy addition to a night of SA scary attractions if you’re willing to make the short drive. Even better, part of every ticket supports VFW Post 3966, whose grounds host the attraction.

House of Insanity

Most haunted houses decide what scares you for you. House of Insanity would rather figure out what makes you panic and then work with that.
The attraction builds its rooms around classic phobias, including claustrophobia, arachnophobia, and coulrophobia, while trained actors watch your reactions and adjust their approach.
So, your reactions can actually shape what happens next, so going through with a fearless friend may produce a very different experience from going through with the person who is already regretting buying a ticket.
The attraction recently moved from Victoria’s Black Swan Inn to a larger permanent space at Retama Park in Selma. Also, attendance is capped to keep the experience from feeling crowded, so buying ahead is the smart move.

Spooky Tours & Ghost Walks in San Antonio
Sisters Grimm Ghost Tours

Sisters Grimm Ghost Tours is a great pick if you want to see a different, darker side of San Antonio after sunset.
Founded by San Antonio natives Lauren and James Swartz, the company has been telling the city’s haunted history for years. The two also wrote The Haunted History of Old San Antonio and run the Sisters Grimm Oddities Parlor inside the Menger Hotel, so they know their spooky local lore.
You have three tours to choose from depending on how adventurous you’re feeling.
The Haunted History Walk is the easiest introduction, taking you through Alamo Plaza, Main Plaza, and Military Plaza over about 1.5 hours. It’s open to all ages and gives you plenty of creepy stories.
Ready to go a little deeper? The Ghost Bus Tour takes guests ages 13 and up to some of the city’s most haunted spots, including exclusive access inside the Menger Hotel and a 30-minute nighttime walk through one of San Antonio’s oldest cemeteries.

The Haunted Pub Crawl takes you to four of downtown San Antonio’s oldest and most haunted bars, with free cover at every stop and drink specials at three.
Between stops, theatrically trained guides lead you through Alamo Plaza and along the River Walk, sharing the history, legends, and hauntings tied to the buildings around you.
So instead of simply hopping from bar to bar, you’re getting a little sightseeing, a little storytelling, and plenty of opportunities to raise a glass to the ghosts.
If pubs aren’t your thing, Bad Wolf also offers an all-ages Ghost Walk covering about a mile and a Haunted Dinner Tour at the Emily Morgan. Reservations are required for all three experiences, and weekend spots can go quickly.

Curious Twins Paranormal Ghost Tours
Curious Twins Paranormal Ghost Tours is a fun choice for anyone who has ever heard a ghost story and immediately thought, Okay, but can we actually investigate it?
The company runs Texas Paranormal Fest, the state’s largest paranormal festival, at Victoria’s Black Swan Inn and takes a more hands-on approach to its tours.
One of the regular stops is City Cemetery #1, one of San Antonio’s oldest operating cemeteries. After the guided portion, guests can use actual ghost-hunting equipment to see what they might pick up themselves.
Curious Twins also offers a True Crime walking tour on Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 10 p.m. at King William Park. The two-hour, 1.1-mile walk explores murders, executions, Indigenous burial practices, and San Antonio’s former red-light district.

RJA Ghost Tours
RJA Ghost Tours makes it easy to turn an ordinary night downtown into a little paranormal adventure.

SeaWorld San Antonio is turning the entire park into a Halloween playground for the 25th anniversary of Howl-O-Scream, and this year’s celebration is the biggest one yet.
There are three brand-new haunted houses to explore this year, starting with I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Final Catch. The officially licensed walkthrough is based on the 1997 movie and marks the first time the franchise has been adapted for a major Halloween event.
Witch of the Woods and Dead Wreckoning join returning favorites The Swamp at Blackwater Bayou and Dis-Assembly Line, giving you plenty to work through if you like your Halloween nights packed with scares.
Outside the houses, eight scare zones spread the mayhem throughout the park, while the roller coasters keep running under fog and horror lighting.
Just take note: the event is intended for mature audiences, with graphic violence, blood, and gore as part of the experience.

Fright Fest at Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Six Flags Fiesta Texas has been doing Fright Fest for 30 years, and it’s celebrating the milestone with its biggest Halloween lineup yet.
On select nights through November 1, the park transforms after dark with six haunted mazes, seven scare zones, and nine live entertainment experiences.
The big new attraction this year is a Conjuring Universe maze that takes you into the Warrens’ occult museum, where you’ll encounter Annabelle, The Nun, and the demonic forces from the Perron farmhouse.
SAW: Legacy of Terror puts you inside Jigsaw’s world of infamous traps, while Nosferatu, Hexenhaus, Cinema Slasher, and Twisted: Theatre of Torment round out the maze lineup.
There are also two new scare zones to wander into.
Cirkus Bezerkus: Big Top Terror brings sinister clowns and an interactive show where you might find yourself pulled into the action, while Alley of the Dead turns the park into a neon-lit wasteland ruled by zombie punks.
An interactive lantern experience adds even more fun, with 25+ locations where you can trigger lighting and audio effects as you explore.
Park admission covers the scare zones and other Fright Fest entertainment, but the haunted mazes require a separate Haunted Attractions Pass for $30. Guests 17 and under also need a chaperone, and the event isn’t recommended for children under 13.

Nightmare at Owl Creek
During the day, Owl Creek Farm is a cheerful pumpkin patch. Come nighttime, the same farm turns into Nightmare at Owl Creek, with a haunted forest, a pitch-black maze, and a zombie-blasting game waiting for you.
Your ticket gets you into three attractions.
The main event is the Terrifying Trail, a haunted forest walk that can take anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes depending on your group. Expect plenty of scares here to keep you on your toes.
Then comes the Blackout Maze, where the lights go completely out for 10 to 15 minutes, and you have to navigate by touch.
Both attractions may be too intense for children 12 and under, but the Zombie Hunt offers a much friendlier way for them to join the fun. It’s a 15-minute Gellyball blaster game open to ages 5 and up, so younger visitors can get in on the action without signing up for the full nightmare.

Victoria’s Black Swan Inn Haunted Investigation
Victoria’s Black Swan Inn sits on land associated with two Texas battles and Indigenous burial grounds, while its later history includes a dairy farm, multiple deaths, and a suspected murder.
It’s been named among the Top 10 Most Haunted Places in Texas and the United States, so this isn’t exactly a location that needs to manufacture a spooky reputation.
The best way to experience it is with Curious Twins Paranormal, the only group currently permitted to conduct tours inside the old mansion.
Their investigations are limited to just 20 guests and include paranormal equipment for everyone, giving you a chance to participate instead of simply following a guide from room to room.

Rolling Oaks Mall is already a little eerie when the corridors get quiet, so turning part of the mall into a 12,000-square-foot haunted attraction feels almost unfair.
From October through early November, Haunted Oaks takes over the space and fills it with slashers, monsters, creepy characters, and enough darkness to make you reconsider walking down an empty mall corridor ever again.
This is an actor-heavy haunt, so expect plenty of things to jump out, stalk you, and generally make you question why you volunteered for this.
The rooms are packed with themed characters and monsters, while intense audio, sudden lighting changes, low visibility, and unexpected movements keep you on edge.
And if you really want to commit to a particular nightmare, the attraction hosts themed nights toward the end of October, including Slasher Night and Clown Night, when the cast and rooms shift their focus to one very specific flavor of terror.
