The Muertos Mercado adds another reason to browse, with handcrafted goods from largely women-owned micro businesses. And when the procession rolls through Hemisfair, expect dancers, drummers, puppets, mobile altars, and community groups bringing the celebration together.

Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival
Luminaria is what happens when San Antonio hands over an entire downtown district to artists and says, “Go wild.”
This one-night contemporary arts festival transforms streets, buildings, courtyards, and other unexpected spaces into a city-sized gallery. And because the festival moves locations from year to year, you never quite know what the next edition will look like.
The 2025 festival took over St. Paul Square, where artists created work inspired by the district’s historic buildings, railroad facilities, balconies, and courtyards. Eight-story digital projections lit up the Staybridge Suites Convention Center, while other parts of the district hosted installations, film screenings, live dance, poetry, and performance art.
Check the artist lineup before heading out so you can plan your route, then permit yourself to get a little lost. That’s part of the fun.

Diwali San Antonio (DiwaliSA)

San Antonio’s River Walk is already a pretty spectacular place to spend an evening. Add thousands of glowing diyas, Indian music, colorful traditional clothing, and a fireworks display, and you’ve got DiwaliSA.
The festival celebrates Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, through a mix of cultural performances, food, and activities.
The highlight for many visitors is the diya release, when 2,000 small oil lamps are lit and set afloat on the San Antonio River Walk.
But there’s also plenty to do before the lights hit the water. Regional Indian associations perform traditional dances from different parts of the country.
You can also watch a Rangoli competition, join a Bollywood dance party, browse merchant booths, and sample Indian sweets like kalakand, rasgulla, and ras malai. Then, you can end the night with a fireworks display around 10 PM.
One tip: if floating a diya is on your must-do list, arrive before sunset and buy yours early. They can sell out, and the release takes place at a specific spot along the River Walk.

Family Harvest Festivals and Pumpkin Patches
Devine Acres Farm

The Groovy Goat Races alone are enough to turn a quiet Saturday at Devine Acres Farm into a surprisingly competitive spectator sport. But once you’re here, there’s a whole lot more to keep the family busy across this 45-acre farm outside Devine.
More than 50 attractions fill the property during the fall season, including a pumpkin vine maze, gemstone mining, cypress slides, a catch-and-release fishing pond, and plenty of places to stop for those all-important fall photos.
The flower fields are particularly worth a wander. Sunflowers and zinnias bloom across the farm, and you can cut your own bouquet to take home while exploring the seasonal photo setups around the property.
For the grown-ups, the Giggly Goat Beer Garden serves craft beer, wine, frozen cocktails, and giant pretzels with cheese dip. As for the foods, you can refuel with apple cider donuts, loaded donut milkshakes, loaded mac and cheese, fresh cookies, and other festival favorites.
Devine Acres makes a particularly fun day trip if you’re exploring fall festivals in San Antonio but don’t mind driving a little beyond the city. Just buy your tickets online ahead of time. Weekend dates can sell out, and gate prices are higher.

Graff 7A Ranch South Texas Maize
Getting lost is the whole point at Graff 7A Ranch, where the South Texas Maize sends you into 12-foot-tall sorghum stalks for a proper farm adventure.
The maze is divided into two sections, with each side taking roughly 15 to 30 minutes to navigate.
Come in October, and you can add the pumpkin patch to your visit, then stick around after dark for a completely different side of the ranch. Friday and Saturday nights bring twinkle lights, campfires, live music in the Dance Barn, and the chance to tackle the maze at night.
You can even reserve a private campfire site for your group, with seating and firewood included and a staff member handling the fire.
There’s plenty for kids, too. Boer goats are waiting to be fed, pig races regularly attract their own little cheering section, and the ranch serves classic fall-festival fare such as turkey legs, funnel cakes, pizza, and BBQ.

Pipe Creek Christmas Tree Farm and Pumpkin Patch
Your hayride at Pipe Creek Pumpkin Patch doesn’t just take you around a field of pumpkins. It rolls through 6,000 Christmas trees.
The farm has been growing Christmas trees since 1994, and when the pumpkin patch opens in October, you get to wander through the same rows where families will eventually return to choose their Christmas trees.
Aside from the hayride, you can jump into the haystack, race rubber ducks, visit the farm animals, play in the giant sandbox, dress a scarecrow, or let the kids burn off some energy on the hop balls.
There are photo spots around the property, too, and pumpkin painting is included when you purchase a pumpkin.
When everyone gets hungry, the snack bar has hot dogs, Frito pie, lemonade, and marshmallows for toasting. You can also browse the farmers market for pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, and corn stalks if you’re ready to give your front porch a full fall makeover.

Bracken United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch & Festival
More than 15,000 pumpkins take over the oak-shaded grounds of Bracken United Methodist Church every October, turning this historic church property into one very large pumpkin-shopping destination.
You’ll find pumpkins in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colors, giving you plenty of options whether you’re after a classic jack-o’-lantern or the oddly shaped pumpkin that somehow becomes the family favorite.
The best part for families? You don’t have to keep pulling out your wallet every five minutes. Admission is free, and so are the hayride, kiddie train, carnival games, scarecrow displays, and photo booths. There’s even a light dinner on the house.
On Saturdays, the festival atmosphere picks up with live music and hot food concessions, making it the liveliest time to visit.

Traders Village Corny Maze & Fall Fest
You get considerably more than a corn maze at Traders Village.
The 10-acre Corny Maze has three levels of difficulty, so your group can choose between a kid-friendly route, a medium maze that takes around 30 minutes to an hour, or the hard trail that can keep determined maze-solvers wandering for up to two hours.
Just remember to keep track of who’s holding the map. Family negotiations can get surprisingly serious in a cornfield.
Aside from that, your maze admission includes the petting zoo, while the wider fall setup includes carnival rides, duck races, calf roping, axe throwing, a corn pit, giant games, an apple cannon, Dino Carts, pumpkin painting, and more.
And when you need a break, you can wander through hundreds of flea-market vendors without paying another admission fee.

Beethoven Männerchor Oktoberfest
Nearly a century of Oktoberfest tradition is a lot to live up to, but Beethoven Männerchor has the history and the beer list to make a convincing case.
The San Antonio singing society has held its second-oldest beer license in Bexar County since 1867, and its German heritage is still very much alive. Members continue to rehearse, compete in Sängerfests, and perform traditional German music.
The celebration gives you plenty of reasons to stay all evening. The Dance Band starts at 5 PM, followed by the ceremonial keg tapping at 6:30 and the Concert Band at 7.
At 8:30, the Männerchor and Damenchor lead a sing-along while the stein-hoisting competition gets underway on the Kuest House porch. Then Mackenzie’s Good Time Polka Band takes over from 9 to 11 PM.
And you’ll want to arrive hungry. Bratwurst, Leberkäse, Gulasch, Reuben sandwiches, potato salad, and sauerkraut fill the food lineup, with a Bratwurst Express available if the main line gets too long.

San Antonio Beer Festival

Four hundred-plus beers from more than 100 breweries is the sort of lineup that makes “I’ll just try a couple” an ambitious opening statement.
The San Antonio Beer Festival, founded in 2005, brings an enormous selection of craft beer to Civic Park at Hemisfair, with everything from pilsners and lagers to stouts, sours, Belgian-style beers, ciders, and unusual one-off collaborations.
General admission gets you a sampling card with 12 two-ounce pours, giving you enough room to explore without committing to a full pint of something you’re not sure about.
VIP admission adds early entry and access to the Real Ale Brewing Co. lounge, plus first access to rare and limited-release beers.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket and settle in at Civic Park for the afternoon. The festival runs rain or shine, is strictly 21+, and a portion of the proceeds benefits the San Antonio Food Bank.

Boerne Oktoberfest

Founded by German immigrants in 1849, the town still has a Hauptstrasse running through its historic center, and Oktoberfest season brings that heritage into the streets through brewery specials, German-inspired events, and celebrations around the Hill Country Mile.
The most distinctive stop is Barktoberfest at Main Plaza, where the Hill Country Animal League puts a canine spin on the usual Oktoberfest formula.
You get local craft beer, food trucks, live music, pet adoptions, vendor booths, and a petting zoo, plus the main attraction: Doggy Dash races and a dog costume contest. If watching dachshunds sprint down a race track while you hold a beer sounds like a perfectly reasonable Saturday afternoon, you’ve found your event.

Gruene Music & Wine Festival
A festival that started in 1987 with a $450 fundraiser has grown into a four-day music and wine event that raised more than $283,000 in 2023. The money goes to the United Way of Comal County and its network of local service agencies, but the reason people keep coming back is the combination of Texas music, wine, beer, and one of the state’s most atmospheric historic towns.
Thursday’s Grapevine Garden is the relaxed option, with free admission, tasting tickets, Texas wineries and breweries, and live music.
Friday brings Stars & Guitars, a private concert and meet-and-greet at Gruene Hall, followed by the Great Guitar Auction featuring instruments signed by major artists.
Saturday is the main tasting-and-music day, while Sunday wraps things up with a headline performance inside Gruene Hall, Texas’ oldest continually operating dance hall.
The wine lineup has included Becker Vineyards from Fredericksburg alongside other Texas wineries, while Independence Brewing Company has represented the craft beer side.
And because this is Gruene, the music is every bit as important as what’s in your glass. Past performers and special guests have included major Texas country names, making the weekend feel more like a music festival with excellent drinks.
