So what does your favorite girls’ night out look like? Dinner with friends? A movie? All fun, but are you ready for something different? What about this: you’re strolling down a beautiful historic Main Street with your favorite girlfriends, getting a jump on your holiday shopping–no wait–taking as much time as you need to try on a little something for yourself in a trendy boutique—WITH NO KIDS, Y’ALL—all while sipping a free cocktail. Sound too good to be true? It isn’t, and it’s everything that’s in store for you at the Fall 2020 Diva Night in Boerne, TX, one of my personal favorite GNOs of the year! When was the last time you went to Boerne? If it’s been more than a couple of years, you definitely need to check out what’s new, and Diva Night is the perfect time to do it.
The fun begins at 5 p.m. on November 12, when you pick up your tiara and boa, and this time, a free tote bag, at either end of Main Street (this summer’s check-in locations will be Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery on South Main ad Mommy 2B on Blanco), then make your way to your favorite shops and boutiques—they’re staying open until 9 p.m., hooray!
Here’s the scoop from my personal experience at Diva Night, which can help you plan your evening:
Last time we attended, my friends and I arrived at the Hill Country Mile (the collective name for historic downtown Boerne) around 5:30 p.m. Most of us live in the North Central part of San Antonio, and took under 30 minutes to get to the Boerne city limits and, with company, it went quick and was great chatting time. There was ample parking everywhere, and we easily found a spot on San Antonio Ave, just off Main, in front of The Bra Chick (which is now the Haupstrasse Barber Shop). We walked a few steps away to pick up our fancy tiaras and get the lay of the land. We immediately found reasonably-priced beer at Soda Pop’s outside pop-up bar, which unfortunately closed down recently), and made a quick plan to visit Hunting & Gathering first (right behind us), then continue south until we hit The Flower Shop a few blocks down.
Along the way, Pixie and LaTeDa had a super fun photo booth set up with the sweetest “prom queens” there to help us take pics and memorialize the night, and DJs were set up at a couple of spots too, making for a really festive atmosphere. Everywhere we stopped had fun cocktails and other sips (like spiked cider at The Christmas Shoppe, and sangria, champagne, and wine tastings at a few of the other places) and little snacks too.
We ended up stopping for a while at Cibolo Creek Brewing Co., where we got appetizers and sat out front where we could listen to a great DJ set up across the street at The (former) Flower Shop. We made our way back north towards The Dienger Trading Co., finding treasures at JAC’s and The Victorian Rose and, by the end, I had purchased three Christmas gifts and a scarf for myself (only early November and I was getting stuff DONE, y’all!).
Once the shops closed at 9, we just weren’t ready to go home so we hung around a little longer in the bar at Peggy’s on the Green located in The Kendall (which is a really cool hotel you have to see) in their comfy leather chairs and since we’d gotten a couple of free drinks along the way, I splurged on a nice glass of wine that I would never have gotten otherwise.
We did see a few groups who brought their daughters along and they were having a great time too—there are lots of shops perfect for kids, tweens, teens, and college-age girls, along with amazing ice cream shakes and treats at Soda Pop’s Sugar Shack, so it’s a fun mom and daughter night for sure.
All said and done I personally spent around $100, but that included a couple of drinks, a split appetizer, three gifts, and the aforementioned scarf for myself, all rolled up in a super fun night with friends–so I think that was a good value. Basically, the evening can be as reasonable or as spendy as you want it to be.
If you’re not familiar with the area, I suggest liking the Hill Country Mile Facebook page, where there are always updates on things going on in downtown Boerne, sneak peeks of fun things the shops are getting in, and if the Diva Night date doesn’t work for you, check out Dickens On Main at dickensonmain.com, one of the best holiday festivals around, which takes place two nights on Thanksgiving weekend. See you at Diva Night in Boerne, TX, girls!
