McNay Art Museum: David Portillo Recital: A Margaret King Stanley Vocal Scholarship Benefit

Visit the museum for this beautiful recital by American tenor David Portillo who will be accompanied by collaborative pianist Kristin Roach. The concert will present a stunning performance by this musician and raise funds for the new Margaret King Stanley Vocal Scholarship for aspiring young artists sponsored by the Opera Guild of San Antonio.

San Antonio Museum of Art: Online Studio Workshop: Paper Botany with Jessica Thompson-Castillo

An exciting workshop for the closet artist in you, this virtual event is all about creating paper flowers to make a bouquet, a three-dimensional framed piece, or a flower crown. You’ll be given an instructional video in advance to get cracking on this project and then, you can share your work, ask questions on processes and find out more about Jessica’s artistic practice in an online session that will follow.

The DoSeum: Free Family Night

This monthly event which takes place on the first Tuesday of every month is for museum members and visitors to bring the family together for some fun and interesting activities. Arrive at the museum with the kids and the entire family in tow for an evening filled with tons of games, some arts and crafts, a bit of storytelling and reading and so much more!

Blue Star Contemporary: Terran Last Gun

Artist Terran Last-Gun whose works are currently being exhibited by the museum will be seen in conversation with IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts’ Chief Curator Manuela Well-Off-Man and BSC’s Curator and Exhibitions Manager Jack McGilvray. This stimulating meet-up will talk about the artist’s drawings and how they can be placed in the present context along with the hidden meanings in his artistic practice. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the museum and check out the artist’s works too!

Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio: Salvaged Pages

A book club discussion this August will talk about the well-known work, Salvaged Pages.

Join the museum as it discusses Alexandria Zapruder’s Salvaged Pages. The book is a collection of diaries written during the Holocaust by young people from 12 to 22 years of age. While some of these youngsters were refugees, others were hiding or passing themselves off as non-Jews and then there were those imprisoned in ghettos. This discussion of the museum’s book club is about exploring each of these stories and the days of the Holocaust captured in these pages.

San Antonio Museum of Art: 2021 Texas Biennial: A New Landscape, A Possible Horizon

A new exhibit coming to San Antonio this August will feature 35 works by artists who have been practicing in the Lone Star State along with artworks by a new category, that of ‘Texpats,’ basically, these are native Texans who have relocated to other parts of the world. The exhibition will be distributed across five Texas museums in all. At SAMA you’ll be able to glimpse into the sheer creative range explored in the collection that includes everything from sculptures, films and experimental videos to photo-based media, paintings, printmaking and more!
