The holiday season is upon us and there are plenty of ways to celebrate. If you’re looking for something fun to do this holiday break, check out these ideas for free and cheap things to do in San Antonio during Thanksgiving week

San Antonio Zoo Lights Open daily now through December 31, the San Antonio Zoo is Merry, Bright, and Wild at Night! You won’t see many of the animals but the lights are sure to be a treat. You can also get a train ride, visit with Santa, and more. Tickets start at $29.99 but you can get admission discount on Groupon for a limited time. Learn more about Zoo Lights here.

Santa’s Ranch Visit Santa Clause in his Texas home! This festive ranch is all decked out for the season with a drive- thru Christmas Light Festival. You’ll take a drive through over a mile of winding country roads while taking in the beautiful lights, animated Christmas displays, and enjoying homemade hot cocoa, kettle corn, and snacks. Open daily through January 2, 2021. Tickets start at $35 plus tax per vehicle, but if you plan on visiting multiple times, just get the season pass for $70.

SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration SeaWorld is all decked out in Christmas lights galore. The exhibit runs November 11 through January 2, along with Christmas themed shows, a Nativity, Dinner with Santa, and more. The event is included with the price of admission. Old West Christmas Light Fest What’s better than a Christmas light show? One where you don’t have to get out of the car if you don’t want to. Check out this drive-thru and walk-around Christmas Light Festival going on Thanksgiving Night through Christmas Night. Enjoy holiday games, food & drinks, decorate cookies, take photos, and more. Or simply enjoy the drive-thru display if you want. Tickets start at just $10 for adults, located in Boerne.

HEB Christmas Tree Lighting The Annual “Gift to the City” has arrived at Travis Park. The Tree Lighting Celebration is back in person this year. The 37th Annual H-E-B Tree Lighting Celebration will be held in Travis Park on Friday, Nov. 26 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. At 6:20 p.m., the tree lights will be turned on for the first time. The public is invited to attend the free community celebration, which will include Christmas crafts, free prizes, letters to Santa, live musical entertainment, and a special visit from Santa. After the tree lighting ceremony, there will be a screening of The Grinch (2018).

Christmas in Comfort This annual festival has grown into a full-blown market with live entertainment, a food court, and Visits with Santa. The fun goes down Saturday, November 27.  The festival, which began with a few locals staffing a few booths in the historic area, has grown to include over 125 art and craft merchants as well as a full day of holiday activities from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. On November 27, 2021, plan to attend Christmas in Comfort. At 7 p.m., the lighted night procession begins.
