San Antonio’s newest dog-friendly bar plans to open on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020. The owners of Taco Garage and Burleson Yard Beer Garden have plans to open a new dog-friendly bar called Hops and Hounds on Wednesday. This new dog bar will be located on the Northeast side of San Antonio.

More specifically, Hops & Hounds is located near the front gates of McAllister Park at 13838 Jones Maltsberger Rd. on the northeast side of San Antonio. This close to an acre property was previously a larger restaurant called Reben’s Backyard. However, it closed in January.

Joshua Giles is the general manager at Hops & Hounds and has reported that the new restaurant had planned to open in April. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, those plans changed when dine-in restaurants were temporarily closed back in March.

On last Monday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that bars could reopen at 25% capacity. Giles explained that his new bar will have limited seating for both its indoor and outdoor areas, in order to abide by Abbott’s coronavirus restrictions. Dogs will also not be allowed in the dining room.

Guests are asked to wear face coverings when interacting with the staff. Groups larger than six are not allowed into the bar until further notice, the bar said.

Hops & Hounds, amongst many other San Antonio dog-friendly spots, has a dine-in restaurant, an indoor and outdoor bar, a playground for children, and a dog run. The run is in a gated area that is separate and will have ramps and other obstacles for the dogs of patrons to enjoy.

Hops & Hound’s food menu includes burgers, fries, and chicken tenders. The bar will offer some customer-favorite cocktails from Burleson and Taco Garage as well as margaritas.

Hops & Hounds will be located at 13838 Jones Maltsberger Rd.

Hops & Hounds hours: 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to midnight Friday, 11 am to midnight Saturday and Sunday 11 am to 10 pm.
