Nestled into a peaceful nook of the Medical Center, you’ll find Denman Estate Park, #11 of 20 San Antonio parks our family’s visiting this year.

Like Chris Park, there’s no playground here. But that won’t stop you and your kids from having fun. This 13-acre park is covered by a majestic canopy of trees.

The pond is home to a shy group of fluffy ducks…

…and a graceful crane who floats effortlessly through the air as he glides overhead.

A half-mile walking path circles the pond along with (what I think are) cypress trees.

A “meditative labyrinth,” constructed from small bushes is the perfect place for kids to run and play chase.

Most notably, Denman Estate Park is home to a colorful, alluring monument, The Korean Pavilion of Gwangju. This gift from the Metropolitan City of Gwangju and Namkwang Construction to its sister city of San Antonio in 2010 is, “a replica of the traditional Korean pavilion style of the southern provinces. The Pavilion, traditionally used as a place of reflection and reception by scholars and gentlemen, embodies the beauty and harmony created by nature and structure.”

However, your kids will see it as an awesome, giant play structure that, sadly, they are not allowed to enter, climb, or walk on.

This undoubtedly causes sadness, but the feeling quickly fades when they realize that crawling underneath is totally OK.

Getting to Denman Estate Park is easy: take Fredericksburg Road, heading north. Turn right onto Mockingbird Lane (it’s the first street after you cross Callaghan). The road winds around and Denman Estate Park is on your left.
