Well, what a week it’s been. It put me in a funk. You too? With the sad, tragic, and scary world events of late, it’s too easy to slip into feeling small and insignificant and bogged down with worry. The best way to banish that feeling, I’ve found, is to get out there and make a difference in the community. Even small efforts can have big results.
This weekend my kids and I cleaned out their closets and pulled out everything that was too small for them and, yet, could still be useful to someone else. A local group, headed up by San Antonio mom blogger Morena, with Morena’s Corner, is collecting gently used kids’ clothes for the children crossing the border, and delivering them to Catholic Charities here in town to be sure they get to those who need them. There is also an Amazon wish list of needed items if you’d like to purchase and ship items too.
If you have questions or would like to know more about what is needed in this effort and where to drop off your donations, please join Morena in this Facebook group.
Turns out, helping others can be just the thing to pull you out of a funk. Getting outside of your own mind and into your heart takes you father from worry and closer to joy. And, so can creative endeavors like making homemade salsa, creating a regular fitness routines, and building beautiful and functional things, like these ideas from last week’s San Antonio Mom Blogs’ link up:
Amanda is an inspiration – her second daughter was born just a few months ago but she’s working hard to get back into shape and she’s sharing her new fitness routine.
Alison’s new blog is all about looking and feeling great. Her first post pays homage to her grandmother and her finely-tuned, gorgeous sense of style.
I’m a firm believe that salsa and chips are the cure for just about anything. Ashley’s got a quick and easy recipe for homemade salsa that will chase everyone’s blues away.
And, if that’s not enough to perk you right up, find a project and get going on it! Patti had a problem: nosy neighbors who could peek into her patio. She created an easy (and fabulous) solution: DIY drop cloth curtains to die for.
Now, it’s your turn. What are you writing about this week? I’d love to read it all, leave comments, and share it out!
