As the negative economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic continue to mount, President Trump and Treasury Secretary Muchin said they’re considering having checks sent out to Americans over the next few weeks.
“We’re looking at sending checks to Americans immediately,” Mnuchin said in a press briefing at the White House. “We want to make sure Americans get money in their pockets quickly.”
Mnuchin plans on outlining an $850 billion package and sending it to the Senate Republicans today in hopes that it can be approved by the end of the week. His aim is to send checks out in the next two weeks.
As portions of the country are forced to shutdown, businesses and employees are faced with difficult circumstances. Mnuchin said, “this is no fault to American workers.”
President Trump hopes the package will help Americans keep their heads above water in coming months.
“We don’t want airlines going out of business or people losing their jobs and not having money to live,” the President said.
