Astronomy in the Park – Raymond Rimkus
What: SAAA members will have telescopes set up to show you various objects in the night sky. Astronomers will be setup in the large parking lot near the intersection of Cherryleaf St. and Poss Road. *This is a free event open to the public, however it is dependent on the weather so if it is cloudy or raining the event will be canceled. Check the SAAA Facebook page for updates. Note about the start time: It’s a general time – usually they meet before sunset to set up telescopes and then viewing will start as soon as conditions allow (generally about 1 hour after sunset).

Hike the Canyon at Government CanyonÂ
What: Join the Friends of Government Canyon and the Sierra Club for a jointly-led guided hike on one of the many trails at Government Canyon State Natural Area. The hike will range from 4 to 7 miles depending on the group. Open to ages 13 and over; minors must be accompanied by an adult. Group size is limited; no pets, please. Dress appropriately; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring two liters of water per person and a snack. Natural Area Entry fees apply. Meet at the Visitors Center by the rainwater harvesting tower after stopping at the Entrance Fee Booth Area to self-pay/register. Plan to be at the Visitor Center no later than 7:45 AM; the hike starts promptly at 8:00 AM.

Family Camp Out and Fishing Tournament
What: You can start camping at 10:00 AM on Saturday. We will have a fishing tournament starting at 3:00 PM for those who want participant. You must register for a fishing tournament on site. We’ll have prizes and raffles before dinner. What’s for dinner, you ask? Hot dogs and chips, on us. However, if you want to bring your own dinner, great! That’s what camping is all about. We will also have breakfast ready at 8:00 AM Sunday morning.
