For the last few months, I’ve had the great opportunity to work with the San Antonio Zoo as a consultant, helping them develop their new blog ambassador program. At last week’s Zoo-La-La (their annual foodie fundraiser event for adults, ages 21+), the San Antonio Zoo officially welcomed their new blog ambassadors, affectionately referred to as The Zoo Troop. More on Zoo-La-La in a minute. First, I’d like to introduce you to The Zoo Troop!
Each blogger in the Zoo Troop was invited to apply for the inaugural year of the program. And, after a careful review process, bloggers were selected to participate in the program. Throughout the rest of this year you can follow along with these San Antonio bloggers as they tell the unique stories of our San Antonio Zoo. They’ll share fun and surprising facts; fascinating behind-the-scenes action; and insider tips to help you make the most of your Zoo visits.
Pictured in order above from left to right, here’s where to find the Zoo Troop online:

If you’ve never attended Zoo-La-La before, I’m here to tell you, you don’t want to miss this event next year! A foodie’s dream come true, Zoo-La-La is the Zoo’s annual “taste of” food and cocktail fundraising event. More than 30 of the Alamo City’s best restaurants and beverage purveyors attend to show off their most delicious bites and sips.
You sample delectable cuisine while strolling along the Zoo’s picturesque paths, encountering animal chats with Animal Care Specialists who can fill you in on the interesting details about your favorite animals (I love snakes! This Madagascar Tree Boa was so cool.). Beer, wine, cocktails, soda, and water are all available and they (along with the food) are included in the price of your ticket.
There are so many opportunities for taking great photos (and selfies!) at Zoo-La-La as well as lively entertainment to enjoy. This year’s event included performances near the carousel by The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio and complimentary wild photos by Imagination Photography (who shot this lovely photo of a giant tiger about to devour The Zoo Troop).
Meeting up with friends at Zoo-La-La is a must. Next year, grab your girlfriends (or make it a date night) and attend Zoo-La-La. If you’re a Zoo member, you’ll get a discount on tickets. And, it’s the only time of year when you can enjoy the Zoo kid-free (which basically gives you license to act like a kid instead of the responsible adult you have to be every other day of the year. Perfect!).
