Each week on the San Antonio Mom Blogs Facebook page I’ll be selecting a Fan of the Week. This week’s featured fan and San Antonio Mom Blogger is Morena Hockley. Want to be selected as a Fan of the Week? Like San Antonio Mom Blogs on Facebook and participate!
San Antonio mom blogger Morena Hockley, with Morena’s Corner, makes crafting look easy. Not much of a DIY’er myself, I’m in awe of her clever and creative posts on everything from spooky Halloween costumes to gorgeous glass pendants, decorative mugs to making slime your kids will love to sling. Morena makes it all. And, she makes it all look easy.
How did you get started with blogging?
When we bought our house last year, I started refashioning and upcycling things. It was then that I found my passion. I started sharing some of my projects on Facebook, and friends started asking how I made things. I was encouraged by this and began regularly posting tutorials earlier this year. I’m tickled that my projects have been so well received, and I’m honored to be able to share with this great online crafting community that I’ve learned so much from!
What’s your favorite part about blogging?
My favorite part about blogging is the friendships I’ve made. I don’t have many friends who craft in real life, so it’s been fun to chat with and learn from other crafters online.
If you could only recommend one other blog you think people must read, what is it and why?
I read several blogs everyday, but the top two I recommend (sorry to cheat!) are Dollar Store Crafts and Crafts Unleashed. Crafts Unleashed offers a huge variety of tutorials for different skill levels, and Dollar Store Crafts offers great budget crafting ideas. Plus, I write for both of them.
Your crafts and DIY tutorials are always so colorful and creative. Where do you find your inspiration?
Images inspire me. I love to go through catalogs and websites to look at pictures. Often, a picture will jump out and me and stay stuck in my head until I can figure out how to make it myself!
What’s your advice for us non-crafty people when it comes to creating things?
Take a class at a local craft store, preferably with a friend. All the supplies are ready for you, and you have a real life person who can walk you through and answer your questions. It’s a great way to try things out without making a huge investment.
