Disclosure: I was invited by Schlitterbahn South Padre Island Beach Resort to receive a complimentary, two-night stay, and two complimentary meals. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are mine.

I was soooo excited about attending the Jimmy Buffett concert last night to reclaim an long-buried part of my formerly fun self. But, alas. It wasn’t meant to be. Mere minutes before I jumped into my car to head up to Austin, I learned that the concert was postponed due to weather. Which is CRAZY because it was just a little windy. And cold. And, as any Parrothead knows, a little freezing wind never stopped anyone from blending margaritas, tossing beach balls, and throwing our fins in the air like we just don’t care. But, I suppose Jimmy disagreed.

I’m generally a pretty optimistic person so, “No worries!” I thought. Maybe this could even be a good thing. Maybe the concert would be rescheduled for a date when I could find a babysitter and Roger could go with me as we’d originally planned. But, no. The concert was rescheduled for tonight. In Austin. When I’ll be in South Padre for a previously planned trip. Noooooooooo!

First problems, I know. Poor, poor me. “I have to miss Jimmy Buffet because I’ll be at the beach. Waaaaaaaah!” But, I was incredibly, deeply disappointed.

Still, a girls’ (and bloggers’) getaway at the beach will be the perfect salve to erase my sadness over missing a night with the Parrotheads. And there’s nothing like an ocean breeze and a weekend with friends to clear the head.

Texas coast, beach, indoor and outdoor waterpark, South Padre Island

I’m staying as an invited guest at the Schlitterbahn South Padre Island Beach Resort, along with several other Texas bloggers. We’ve been invited to learn about the indoor/outdoor waterpark and its newly-opened resort. The resort, which had a soft opening in August of last year, was built using lumber recovered from the 2011 fires in Bastrop, Texas. Schlitterbahn built the resort with sustainable building practices in mind. I’m eager to experience the waterpark, hang out on the beach, and learn more about how the resort was built.
