Thanks to all of our readers who contributed ideas and photos to this post!

Updated March 2018

Now that the glorious spring weather has arrived, one of the questions we get asked often is, “Where do we go for perfect patio dining with kids in San Antonio?” We compiled a short list of our favorites but decided our readers probably have great suggestions too, so we asked you on Facebook. Boy, did y’all come through! Check out this amazing, comprehensive list of the best patios for dining with kids in San Antonio (at restaurants with food parents will love too):

Two Step on Bandera and Braun
9840 West Loop 1604 N, San Antonio, TX 78254 (at the corner of Braun Rd and Loop 1604 in the parking lot of the Braun Pointe Shopping Center)
Jen Soberalski recommends Two Step on Bandera & Braun: “Nice patio and grassy area for kids to run and play!”

The Pigpen
106 Pershing, San Antonio, TX 78209
Melissa Vela-Williamson told us that, “Pigpen is good for kids but not toddlers as the playground set is a little too big. Or maybe that’s just my son who’s fearless and wants to climb on anything possible.” And, Megan Callaway noted, “We love The Pigpen. They are associated with, I believe, Smoke Shack, which is next door. They have brisket, shrimp tacos, brisket nachos, and fantastic queso with a wider array of food inside.”

Cerroni’s Purple Garlic
1017 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78209
Kids eat free all day Wednesday and Saturday with the purchase of one adult entree.

Blanco BBQ
13259 Blanco Rd, San Antonio, TX 78216
A favorite of reader Marilyn Haner’s. And Ashley Zuehls said, “Blanco BBQ had a fenced in playground with picnic tables and a deck to eat while the kids play. Love the brisket!”

El Chapparal in Helotes
15103 Bandera Rd, Helotes, TX 78023
Stephanie Hall and Erika Zavala: “The location in Helotes has a rainbow playground set and lots of room to play.”

El Machito on Basse
7300 Jones Maltsberger Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209
Megan Callaway loves El Machito on Basse. “It’s a little pricey but we always just do appetizers and sneak the kid’s food, ha ha! Their bacon wrapped hotdog from the kids menu…amazing. And it’s made in house. And their playground and kids area is awesome. The service there is absolutely amazing. I’m not sure if they still offer if but on Saturday afternoons they were doing family days. Free face painting and other little activities.”

BurgerFi
Four locations in San Antonio, but we’re not sure if they all offer playgrounds
Michelle Adams is happy that she’s found a place where the food is quick but organic and her 18-month-old loves their music playlist.

Alamo Street Eats Bar
609 S Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78205
Niki Burnam recommends Alamo Street Eats Bar because, “everyone can choose what they want at different food trucks. With a toddler it can be tricky – my little girl kept wanting to run towards the busy street so it might be better for older kids!”

Two Bros. BBQ
12656 West Ave, San Antonio, TX 78216
With a shaded patio, huge kids’ playground, a sandbox, and live music on the weekends, not to mention some of the best BBQ around, Two Bros. BBQ has a perfect patio for families.

Shuck Shack
520 E Grayson St, San Antonio, TX 78215
The kids’ menu features fish and chips, cheeseburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, and hot dogs. And, while kids will love the playground, parents will favor the fresh shucked oysters, lobster rolls, kewpie deviled eggs, and the Tijuana dog.

HEB’s 3 Double-O Nine Restaurant
17460 IH 35 N #500, Schertz, TX 78154
Cheryl Rodriquez can’t get enough of the patio at HEB’s Schertz restaurant, 3 Double‑0 Nine. “It’s a great place, especially on weekends. It’s a restaurant/bar/patio with kids’ play area. On the menu: amazing street tacos, pizzas, sandwiches, salads and awesome BBQ! The burgers includes several variations on the classic, with or without cheese, made with prime beef as well as turkey, garden, ahi tuna and brisket burgers. They also offer cocktails, wine, beer and they have live music on weekends. There is also indoor/outdoor seating with TVs to watch the Spurs. Afterward, walk down the sidewalk to Baskin Robbins for dessert!”

HEB’s Oaks Crossing Restaurant and Bar
23635 Wilderness Oak, San Antonio, TX 78260
We wrote about HEB’s Oaks Crossing on San Antonio Mom Blogs when it first opened. Both Adrianna Sherman and Jenette Nicole love it too. Said Jenette, “I second HEB/Oaks Crossing Restaurant & Bar in Stone Oak. Kids eat free on Mondays and Thursdays and there are TON of kids there so it’s easy for little ones to make friends).

Beefy’s Backyard
25900 US-281, San Antonio, TX 78258
Jenette also likes Beefy’s Backyard’s huge patio for the parents and a playground and ball court for the kids (and game room inside if it rains).
