The addition of a new playground at Martin Luther King Park is sure to bring a wave of delight to kids in San Antonio. The playground, named DREAM Park, opened on July 16 at the Martin Luther King Park in San Antonio.
The opening celebrations involved a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Eastside Boys & Girls Club’s representatives, H-E-B, Unilever, and elected officials. The playground is now open to the general public and provides abundant outdoor open space for families and kids to enjoy themselves.
How will the New Playground at Martin Luther King Park Benefit the Community?
The playground adapts a part of the earlier unused space within the park. It aims to benefit the local community by providing ample open outdoor space to bolster community engagement, enable kids to play and enjoy fresh air, and let families spend quality time. Together, Unilever, H-E-B, and the Eastside Boys & Girls Club have worked on the conceptualization, design, and resource organization of the playground.
Steve Kohring, Customer Development lead for Unilever said, “Now in its second year, the Unilever Day of Service and Every Day U Does Good campaign has been focused on empowering women and families, particularly in our local communities in need. This playground is an example of our commitment in action here in the great state of Texas.”
Additionally, James Harris, director of Diversity & Inclusion at H-E-B stated, “At H-E-B we are constantly striving to create lasting impacts in the communities we serve.” “By working alongside Unilever and the Boys & Girls Club we’re able to provide our community with a space and opportunity to come and engage with their neighbors in a meaningful way.”

Funding for the new playground
The playground construction has been funded through the partnership between H-E-B and Unilever. Both these companies have donated resources to the project. Additionally, it also received a contribution from Unilever’s in-store fundraising campaign and H-E-B’s Be the Change Initiative.
