The Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District will offer students an opportunity for low-cost vaccinations. On Tuesday, July 28th, and Wednesday, July 29th parents that have students who are in grades 7-12 may call to make an appointment for their children to be vaccinated at a low cost against 5 different diseases.

Parents must call and make an appointment first at 210-658-4875. From the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Schertz Elementary School’s Based Health Center, parents can bring their children to receive low-cost vaccinations against. The Health Center is located at 757 Curtiss Avenue, in Schertz, Texas and the vaccinations administered will include Human Papillomavirus (HPV9), Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis (TDAP), and Meningococcal (MCV4).

As teachers, students, and families alike prepare for the 2020 school year to gear back up, many are plagued with the fear that accompanies uncertainty. Some students will be returning in person, while others will enroll in distanced learning. There are also schools across the city of San Antonio that may postpone starting school for a few weeks due to the chaos that the coronavirus pandemic has brought.

However, Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. has decided to offer low-cost vaccinations for students to help prevent the diseases that they can. It’s an understatement to express that 2020 has been a year marked by chaos, confusion, and much uncertainty. In this time, the United States, the state of Texas and also the city of San Antonio has seen many community partners rise up to offer the services they can to bring peace of mind to those surviving amid the pandemic.

As cities like San Antonio and Schertz attempt to create and enforce safety and sanitation measures for the upcoming school year, things such as low-cost vaccines for diseases that are treatable is a way to equip children and protect educators from spreading further disease.
