Free family-friendly fun in San Antonio through July 20, 2014

FREE, month-long art classes for kids, ages 5-17, in San Antonio at the Southwest School of Art. Registration is now open and spots fill quickly! Saturday Morning Discovery at the Southwest School of Art provides free two-hour art sessions on Saturdays for one month, for kids ages 5-17. San Antonio children get the opportunity to experiment with many different kinds of art techniques and media, all for free.

San Antonio | The Saga. This free video art installation, created by Xavier De Richemont, plays three times a night on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays on the facade of San Fernando Cathedral.

FREE swimming at San Antonio public outdoor pools:
The San Antonio public pool swimming season runs through Aug. 16. Hours of operation at the majority of the department’s 24 outdoor pools during the summer are Tuesday through Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. with some pools open from 2 to 8 p.m.

Free Tuesdays at the Witte with no admission between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. And, if you pay just $5, you can also see the cool (and awesomely disgusting) Grossology exhibit.

Bat Loco with the San Antonio River Authority (SARA). Each Tuesday, through August 13, join The San Antonio River Authority (SARA), Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), and Bat Conservation International (BCI) for this educational series about the bats in our area. The series is free to attend and culminates in a Bat Loco Bash on Tuesday, August 12 (that starts at 6:00 p.m.)

Free Summer Dance Hall Series at Pearl Stable. This free dance and music series, sponsored by Corona and Cadillac, has a line up hand-selected by San Antonio Jazz legend Doc Watkins. July 16 features Monica Rodriguez and Soundrave (conjunto). The Summer Dance Hall Series runs every Wednesday at Pearl Stable, through August 27. Beer, wine, and water are available for purchase.

This week the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival features Steve Cole and Chris Geith. Free General Admission. Outdoor seating on the amphitheater lawn is free on a first-come, first-served basis. Typically jazz fans begin reserving their spots with blankets and lawn chairs the morning of each concert. No coolers allowed – food and beverages are available for purchase at a variety of booths, as well as the adjacent food court inside Wonderland of the Americas.
