While it still feels like it should be January, it’s a new month with new free San Antonio events! Take advantage of the awesome things on our list of Free in San Antonio.

We’ve made every effort to ensure that this list is accurate and up-to-date, however, some venues/events/activities make changes without notifying us. We recommend contacting them before visiting to be 100% sure that their free offerings are still available.

Recurring Free Events in San Antonio

Texas Educators receive free admission to the San Antonio Zoo in February. (This offer is only valid at the ticket window!) Plus, up to four (4) guests can receive 50% off standard admission*.

To qualify for the discount, you must be an active educator in any school district in the state of Texas, employed by an accredited pre-K-12 public, a private, or parochial school in the state of Texas, provide a driver’s license AND the following items at the ticket window:

• Copy of Teachers Certificate

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, representing 1 of every 3 deaths in the United States and is known as a “silent killer.” To commemorate and spread awareness for American Heart Month, The Emergency Center is offering Free Heart Checks between February 19th and 29th. The Heart Check will include: Pulse and Blood Pressure, EKG, Fasting Lipid Profile (Cholesterol) and Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk Calculator.

Patients can call 877-336-6898 ext 701 until February 18th and 210-485-3644 starting February 19th, 24/7 to schedule their appointments. The Heart Check will take about 15 minutes and testing requires 10 hours of fasting. Due to the need for fasting, mornings fill up fast so patients are advised to schedule appointments soon. All patients will receive a copy of their test results. If the Heart Check indicates a greater than low risk, the patient will be advised to follow up with their PCP or cardiologist.

Saturday, February 3: Home Depot locations around San Antonio, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
FREE, once-a-month workshops for kids, ages 5 – 12 at participating Home Depot stores. This week, your child will build a Valentine Bean Bag Toss. Kids’ workshops are on a first come/first served basis. Register your child online ahead of time to make sure there is room available.

Saturday, February 3: The Alamo, 300 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, Texas 78205, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
First Saturday at The Alamo! On the first Saturday of every month, the grounds of the Alamo are transformed back in time to the 1830s. Dust off your cowboy boots and join us for a special First Saturday as we help kick off the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo with a cowboy themed day at the Alamo.

Stars at Night! Bring your whole family and join the San Antonio Astronomical Association for an evening of viewing the stars. Large, highly magnified telescopes will be set up in the open mulched field of the Savanna (weather permitting). Park in the PHP Urban Ecology Center parking lot. Flashlights are suggested for navigating through the dark. A kid-friendly activity is included. No registration is required. Free to attend but a donation of $3 per person or $5 per family is appreciated.

Celebrate the rich diversity of cultures in the Americas through thought-provoking art activities reflecting the museum’s Latin American, Asian-Pacific American, and African American artworks. Paint, draw, collage and sculpt as you explore cultural identity through stories and art. Kids 12 and under get free admission. After 12:00 p.m., adults pay $10 each.

Free admission to The DoSeum on the first and third Tuesday of every month! Only the first 1,200 guests will be admitted so arrive early. Parking is free but limited – another good reason to be there early. Remember: no outside food allowed and umbrella strollers only inside the museum. H-E-B Cinema on the Plaza. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to the Plaza under the glow of the Tobin Center and enjoy Hidden Figures! The plaza will open an hour before the movie starts. No outside food or drinks are allowed, but concessions will be available for purchase- including full bar service. No Pets Please.

Saturday, February 10: Cibolo Nature Center, meet at Visitor’s Center, 140 City Park Road, Boerne, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Join Cibolo Nature Center for their 2nd Saturday Volunteer Day of Service. Volunteers will be helping to spruce up the visitor’s center. If you have gloves, bring them. Also, wear sturdy shoes.

The 2018 Winterfest Drone Fly-In will be the first drone event to be held at the City of San Antonio’s newly acquired park property, formerly the Alamo Golf Course Property. There will drone photography demonstrations, a drone race exhibition, STEM presentations for all attendees, and opportunities to fly drones on your own! Free and open to the general public.

Saturday, February 10: Arneson River Theater, 418 Villita St, 78205, 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
This free, annual parade celebrating Mardi Gras on the San Antonio River Walk is great fun for the whole family! New Orleans-style entertainment and food is available beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Arneson River Theatre. Food trucks will be on hand and River Walk restaurants will offer Mardi Gras-themed menus as well. The River parade runs throughout the entire downtown area of the River Walk at 4:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to come dressed in masks, costumes and beads.

The Alamo is excited to announce the Alamo Tricentennial Lecture Series as part of San Antonio’s 300th anniversary celebration! The Lunch & Lecture offer an easy way to immerse yourself in Texas history on your lunch break. This event is free to the public. Sunrise Bird Walk! Three area birders, Alan and Patsy Kuentz and Lora Reynolds, lead the walk looking for birds and showing how to identify those common to the area. Feel free to bring bird books and binoculars if you have them. Meet in the patio area of the PHP Urban Ecology Center in the west side of the park. Free and no registration is required. A donation of $3/person or $5/family is suggested.

Tuesday, February 27, at participating IHOP Restaurants, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
FREE pancakes with IHOP’s Free Pancakes promotion. Enjoy a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes and consider making a donation for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and/or other designated local charities. The goal this year is to raise $3.5 million for charity!

Tuesday, February 27: Cibolo Nature Center, Herff Farm, 33 Herff Rd, Boerne, TX, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
CNC: Little Explorers! Little Explorers will come for fun and adventure using their five senses to discover nature. They will listen to stories, sing songs, play games, explore the outdoors, and make crafts to take home. $5 per family.
