VertsKebap - a new dining concept in San Antonio

Recently craving a juicy burger, piled high with cheese and sautéed mushrooms, I drove over to what used to be Smashburger. Imagine my surprise when in its place instead was a new sign and establishment: VertsKebap. Say, what???  Not knowing what VertsKebap was, I drove on by. I’ve since learned that VertsKebap is a dining concept, new to San Antonio, offering kebaps, salads, and wraps. And, I should have stayed to check them out.

But, what’s a Kebap, you say? It’s a Texan take on the European döner kebap:  a warm pide / pita sandwich filled with slow roasted meats, fresh vegetables and creamy yogurt sauces. Located in the Park North shopping center (off of 410 and near Blanco Road), the restaurant’s assembly-line set up encourages diners to create their own entrees using fresh ingredients. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options are available. Most VertsKebap combos are only 550 calories or less.

This Saturday, May 16, VertsKebap (which was originally founded in Austin) opens its 23rd location (its first in San Antonio) and they’re offering every guest one free, full-size entree to try their menu, risk-free. This grand-opening special runs from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. I’m curious to see if kebaps are as good as (better than?) the burger I craved that originally led me to VertsKebap. I’m excited to find out!
