As a parent, one of the greatest joys in life is watching your child discover & experience new things. From standing on one leg like a flamingo while balancing an egg on a spoon or solving a historic matching game inside one of the oldest zoos in the country, to crossing a finish line, new adventures are exciting for both parent and child!
May is Preservation Month and what better way to celebrate than to join OHP for their 6th annual Amazing Preservation Race for Kids being hosted by the San Antonio Zoo on Saturday, May 20! This architectural scavenger hunt, designed for ages 3yrs-11yrs, encourages kids to discover, explore and investigate the unique & historic layout of our 103-year-old Zoo. This event is modeled after OHP’s Amazing Preservation Race for Adults, where participants must use clues to locate multiple challenges hidden in historic areas while competing for prizes.
Participants and their adult chaperone are given a passport with clues to help lead them to multiple challenges spread out around the Zoo. Challenges vary and can be anything from a matching game to an obstacle course, all modified to fit the child’s age level. Each activity has multiple volunteers helping to facilitate safety & fun from our partner organizations, including Villa Finale, Travis Tile, Jefferson High School’s Architecture Club and Pre-K 4 SA.
Kid’s registration is FREE with Adult admission, with up to four children per adult. Children will receive a free t-shirt and the opportunity to win some GREAT prizes! This year, participants will be competing for an annual Zoo membership for four, free tickets to feed the giraffes, and an annual Family Membership to the Witte Museum! OHP will also hand out a fantastic array of books as door prizes!
Adults can register online now, but spots are filling up fast. Limited on-site registration will be available starting at 7:30am the day of the race, so go ahead and sign up online today! The race will begin promptly at 8:15am, giving you the opportunity to beat the heat & beat the crowds to the Zoo!
This affordable event can’t be missed! Your kids will have the opportunity to learn a little something about the history of the Zoo & our city, while getting some of that early morning energy out.
