Dickens on Main in Boerne, Texas is a free, family-friendly holiday festival

Disclosure: I was invited to a complimentary Paint and Sip evening at The Shabby Palette in Boerne to learn about Dickens on Main. I received a swag bag with items from vendors participating in the event. However, all opinions are mine. To see photos from our fun bloggers’ crafting and painting night at The Shabby Palette, visit the San Antonio Mom Blogs’ page on Facebook.

Imagine strolling down small town Main Street one chilly holiday night. A fuzzy scarf drapes around your neck and a cup of hot cider warms your hands and delights your taste buds with each apple-cinnamon sip. Snowflakes drift down around you, tickling your nose. Tiny lights twinkle magically from above as you pass window after window of unique, locally-owned shops, their cozy interiors beckoning you inside. The sound of joyful voices caroling is punctuated only by happy greetings between friends and the squeals of children sledding down an icy hill in the nearby plaza.

Guess what? You don’t have to imagine this classic, festive scene. On Friday, November 28 and Saturday, November 29, you can live it at Dickens on Main in Boerne, Texas.

This free, family-friendly festival, now in it’s 15th year, takes place over Thanksgiving weekend to ring in the holiday season with traditional flair.

As in years past, Dickens on Main features “snow,” a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, live music, photos with Santa, carolers, an artisan’s market, and food and drink booths. Crafts that kids (and kids-at-heart) can create include vintage garlands and ornaments using popcorn, cranberries, ribbons, torn fabric, and felt. A one-man performance of Bah Humbug, a Dickens costume contest, and horse-drawn carriage rides lend to the Victorian atmosphere.

And, new for this year:

  • Nightly ice sculpture shows
  • A concert closes out each night (the Lone Star Swing Orchestra on Friday and Two Tons of Steel on Saturday)
  • A 60-foot snow slide for speedy fun on sleds built for one person or two.

A perfect way to welcome the holiday season with your family, Dickens on Main runs from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on November 28 and 29 on Main Street in Boerne, Texas.

“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.”
