Delta Airlines Steps Up

On Saturday night, Delta Airlines announced that eligible medical volunteers will be able to book free, round-trip flights to assist in COVID-19 hotspots across the country. Medical volunteers can travel to Georgia, Louisiana, and Michigan to help work with state and local officials to combat the spread of Coronavirus.

Free Flights for First Responders

In Delta’s press release, the company stated the medical volunteers will, “work in coordination with the state and local government offices to be deployed to hospitals in areas hardest hit by the virus.” While those aforementioned locations are the only places that Delta Airlines is providing free flights to at this time, they did disclose that in the future, they’ll hopefully be able to expand the program. Other concentrated outbreak areas such as California, New York, and Washington are hopefully next in the program lineup.

Elected officials in Georgia, Louisiana, and Michigan have publicly praised Delta’s decision in the release. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp explains that “Delta is a great member of the Georgia corporate family and their willingness to go above and beyond to assist medical professionals in this difficult time should be applauded.”

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said, “We need as many medical professionals as we can get in Louisiana,” adding that Delta’s program will help them receive much-needed assistance.

In Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer stated that the program “will help our hospitals and health care providers address the influx of COVID-19 patients and help us all bend the curve and slow the spread of this virus.”
