Chunky’s Burger is a famous San Antonio burger joint that has gained the respect of the local community over the year. They gained popularity when the restaurant was featured in the Travel Channel show “Man vs. Food” for its 4 Horsemen Challenge which involves eating a burger with fresh jalapeno and serrano peppers, habanero sauce and ghost pepper.
In hopes to ease the burden for those who have negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Chunky’s Burger is offering a free meal to people to help. Joey Prado is the owner of Chunky’s Burgers at 4602 Callaghan Road. He’s decided to utilize his business as a way to help “ease the burden that this pandemic has caused a lot of people.”
Anyone who is in need of help can go to Chunky’s Burgers and ask for the free meal which comes with a burger, a side of fries, and a drink. Prado says “They just come and ask for it. My staff has done a great job of not making people feel embarrassed or ashamed.”
The restaurant, like many others, is currently not offering indoor seating. However, this is patio seating available, and curbside delivery is also an option at Chunky’s Burgers. Prado explains that he hopes to offer free meals as long as possible. He says “Hopefully it won’t be abused and we can keep it going till everyone is back at a good point in life.”
Due to the pandemic, Prado and his business have had to weather a decent amount of difficulty. However, Prado reports that he is taking every precaution to ensure the safety of employees and customers. Chunky’s restaurant hours have changed and the new hours are from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday, 11:00 am to 9:00 pm Friday and Saturday and 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sundays. They are also serving a limited menu.
