In the last two weeks, the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) has had to cancel over 100 blood drives that were scheduled at schools, businesses, and churches around the area. According to STBTC CEO Elizabeth Waltman, this could lead to a collapse in the South Texas blood supply.
To combat the issue, STBTC is hosting a week-long blood drive beginning Monday, March 30th. Those who donate will receive an H-E-B gift card for $10, a free car wash coupon, and an e-gift card of your choice for companies like Amazon, Hulu, and more.
The blood drive will be held across the city in various locations like businesses, meeting rooms, hotel conference rooms, church gyms, and more.
In case you’re worried about violating the Stay Home, Work Safe order, know that donating blood is an exempted activity according to Mayor Ron Nirenberg.
Donors will need to make appointments for the drive to aid with social distancing. To find a location near you or make an appointment visit the STBTC website or call 210-731-5590.
