There are few things I adore as much as my family. Cupcakes are definitely on that short list.
Yesterday my daughter and I dropped in to the new Bird Bakery, located on Broadway in Alamo Heights, and owned by actor Armie Hammer and his wife Elizabeth Chambers. The decor is country chic meets Alamo Heights hip. The mood is calm, with carefully spaced tables tempting you to sit for a spell to enjoy the company of a friend (or your laptop) over coffee.
The lemon bars I sampled were perfectly tart and the sea salted caramel cupcake I bought was definitely the best I’ve ever tasted, the perfect marriage of sweet and salty. But what impressed me most about Bird Bakery was the attentive and friendly service we received. Smiling staff members hustled about taking orders, giving out samples, making recommendations, and brewing piping hot Cuvee Coffee. They were a cheerful crew and you could tell they love what they do. When handing out their yummy cupcakes they might as well have been handing out smiles.
These days lots of cupcake bakeries in town (and on wheels) compete for San Antonio’s sweet tooth. And while many deliver delicious concoctions to be sure, Bird Bakery’s standout service is what prompted me to post about them.
The next time you’re in the mood for a sweet treat, give ’em a taste. And, if you hurry, you can grab this Living Social deal for Bird Bakery, making your visit that much sweeter.

Yummy! I’m on diet right now, but as soon as I finish I will celebrate with a sweet treat! Still debating with myself if it’s going to be ice-cream or cupcakes. I have a feeling that the latter will win, though 🙂
Ice cream’s great but cupcakes are my go-to favorite!
We went today and they were super friendly. They even make their own sprinkles! I had the plain vanilla and it was amazing. I will definitely be back. They said that next week they will start serving sandwiches and salads. Armie wasn’t there but Elizabeth was. She is so nice!
Cool! I’ll have to go back to try the sandwiches and salads. Elizabeth was there the day we visited too, although I didn’t realize it was her until after we left. She and the staff were charming.
