The well-known restaurant Mixtli is moving to a new location Southtown this fall. Mixtli Progressive Mexican Culinaria is a revered restaurant spot in San Antonio that was recently named the city’s best restaurant by the Express-News. The chefs at Mixtli harken back to the days of old traditional Mexican food makers and thus create new dishes based on old recipes and traditions.
In the fall, Mixtli is moving to Southtown from Olmos Park where its restaurant space will be much larger than the last. Mixtli’s new location address will be at 812 S. Alamo St. across from Rosario’s. The new digs can seat around 30 people inside, which is more than double what the large communal table at The Yard in Olmos Park could accommodate.
For those who are wondering, a new space does not mean a new menu. Mixtli will continue to serve the same delicious fixed-price, multiple courses, rotating menu that San Antonio locals first fell in love with. Chefs and co-owners Rico Torres and Diego Galicia are excited to not only add a full bar to their new restaurant space but also add in a cart that will specialize in agave drinks.
While Mixtli has served alcohol in the past, it has only been as a complementary pairing with the dinners they serve. Now for the first time, restaurant customers will be able to order a margarita to sip alongside their delicious chef-prepared Mexican dish.
Mixtli is accepting reservations at their new location through September and the new space’s debut is scheduled sometime in the later fall. In addition to sweeping the San Antonio’s best restaurant competition two years in a row, Mixtli has also stepped outside of its San Antonio lovers and gained national recognition for its nomination for the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest. In addition, Food & Wine magazine ranked Torres and Galicia among the nation’s 12 Best New Chefs.
