One of my kids’ favorite San Antonio holiday traditions is shopping for gifts for friends and family at Big Brothers Big Sisters holiday pop up shop, From Me to You, each year. Guaranteed, before December 1 comes around, my kids are already asking me, “When do we get to go to that cool store where the kids get to shop for parents and the parents can see what they are buying?”
This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters popular pop up shop for kids is open for just one day: Saturday, December 10, from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at their new offices at the Harvey E. Najim South Texas Mentoring Resource Center, 10843 Gulfdale.
How does From Me to You work?
A unique concept store created in 2013 just for kids, From Me To You is the only place in San Antonio where kids can shop for inexpensive gifts for family and friends, while parents wait in a nearby lounge. Parents select a donation amount for Big Brothers Big Sisters South Texas (and that’s the amount kids get to spend in the shop). Kids select gifts (based on the donation/budget set by their parents), wrap their gifts, and take them home, all without parents knowing what gifts they’ll receive until Christmas morning.
My kids love the independence of shopping without me hovering over them, ruining the surprise of what they select. I’m a fan of the affordable prices which allow my kids to buy the gifts they need for others without breaking their piggy banks.
But the best part about shopping at From Me To You?i It teaches our kids to give back. Proceeds from the shop benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters South Texas, a wonderful organization in our community that “provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.”
- Kids make a list of who they want to shop for.
- Children shop in the From Me To You store and spend up to a limit set by a parent or guardian.
- All gifts can be wrapped at the store.
- While kids shop, parents wait in the comfortable lounge area, enjoy complimentary hot chocolate, watch a holiday-themed movie, and get a break from the stress of holiday shopping.
- Kids leave with a bag of “Under the Tree” gifts ready for family and friends.

This holiday season, bring your kids to From Me To You: fun, easy, and inexpensive holiday shopping that makes a difference.
And, don’t miss:
We had so much fun at the From Me to You pop-up store last year. I’m so glad it’s back again. My son enjoyed having a little independence when shopping. The volunteers add so much to the experience.
what would be an appropriate budget for this shop? $10? $20? $50? Obviously it depends on how many people they are shopping for, but for say, six people (parents, grandparents, and a couple others) what would be a good spending limit?
Christy, yes, it will depend on how many people the child shops for. As a reference point, our kids each had five people on their lists. We set a budget of $50 for them each to spend. But one came in at $24 and the other at $31. All this to say, the prices are really reasonable and you can set any limit you like. Have fun shopping! Our kids LOVE getting to buy gifts this way for family and friends each year.
What a great idea! Big Brothers Big Sisters is such a fantastic organization.
